Browlift (Forehead Lift)

Many of us experience creases along the forehead, frown lines, or sagging skin in the brow area. A browlift, also known as a forehead lift, can help reduce fine lines and excess skin in these areas for a more rejuvenated, youthful, and relaxed appearance. Browlift surgery can also improve the appearance of furrowed brows that may be causing a sad, angry or tired look. Using the most advanced browlift techniques, including endoscopic methods, our experienced plastic surgeon Dr. John P. Zimmermann can help you achieve your goals with natural-looking results.

Benefits of Browlift Surgery

Browlift surgery can provide numerous advantages for your upper facial skin and enhance your confidence in the way you look. Some of the benefits of browlift surgery include:

  • Smoothes out forehead creases and minimizes frown lines
  • Diminishes sagging skin of the upper eyelid, which may be obstructing vision
  • Improves symmetry of the brows
  • Scarring is virtually unnoticeable and hidden in the hairline
  • Can be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic enhancement procedures such as facelift surgery or eyelid surgery for a more comprehensive aesthetic makeover

Dr. Zimmermann will discuss all aspects of treatment with you to determine if browlift surgery is the best option for your needs.

Browlift Procedure

Traditional browlift surgery typically requires a discrete incision made directly above the hairline. After the incision is made, excess sagging skin and tissue are removed while the surrounding muscles are tightened. The remaining skin is pulled taut for a smoother, firmer appearance.

Another approach to browlift surgery is the use of an endoscope, which requires a few small incisions rather than one long incision. A small (4mm) camera is then inserted through one of the incisions which enables Dr. Zimmermann to get a thorough internal view of the treatment area, relayed through a video monitor. In contrast to the traditional browlift technique, no skin or scalp is removed. The entire forehead and brow areas are simply elevated and temporarily secured in their optimal position by absorbable fixation devices placed under the scalp, leading to a smoother, more refreshed appearance. With healing, the forehead becomes permanently fixed in its new position, and the absorbable devices disappear. No hair is removed during this procedure. This technique is considered less invasive than traditional browlift surgery, and typically requires less downtime after the procedure.
